Game description

In 1837, the commencement of Queen Victoria's extensive reign over the United Kingdom marked a period of political division between Liberals and Conservatives. Liberals aimed for societal advancement, advocating for the repeal of the Corn Laws to alleviate the working classes, expanding the electorate for a more genuine democracy, and supporting Home Rule for Ireland. Conversely, Conservatives sought to temper the pace of change while advancing their agenda to maintain order, uphold traditional values, and secure the Empire. While Her Majesty occasionally intervened in politics, the actual governance and setting of the political agenda lay in the hands of the Prime Minister. Throughout Victoria's reign, ten different Prime Ministers took office, each with varying degrees of success. Now, you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in Victorian political life, assuming the role of a historical politician. Will you leave your mark as a Backbencher, create turmoil as a cunning Opposition Leader, or effectively govern the world's greatest empire as Prime Minister?

In the game Prime Minister, 1 to 4 players compete for political power and prestige through activities such as campaigning for public support, selecting and debating bills, pursuing official appointments, recruiting influential Victorians as supporters, gaining favor with the Queen, and, when the opportune moment arises, challenging other players for their leadership roles. While gameplay involves a degree of cooperation with alliances that shift, only one player can emerge victorious by holding the Prime Minister's seat when the game concludes.

Beyond the standard multiplayer game, Prime Minister offers a dozen scenarios of varying lengths and a "Clockwork" system featuring automated opponents for solo play.
